Knitting and Crochet Podcast Ep. 8 – Mystery CAL 2025 is coming + my experience at Lanarte Alicante Fest

The design dilemma: Cholita Sweater wins

In my previous episode, I left you with a question: which design should I develop first —a new sweater inspired by one of my shawl designs, or a fresh take on my Cholita Top?

After many comments and messages from you, the decision is made: the Cholita Sweater is happening!

I’ve been swatching with Merino Baby by Pascuali, exploring colors and textures, and I can already feel it will be a project full of energy and movement. It’s always fascinating to see how a piece evolves when it jumps from a summer top to a cozy sweater version, and I can’t wait to share the progress with you.

Mystery CAL 2025: let’s dive into the unknown

The biggest announcement of this episode is the launch of my new Mystery Crochet Along 2025.

Festival vibes: Lanarte Alicante Fest

I also shared my recent trip to Lanarte Alicante Fest, a smaller festival with a big heart. The atmosphere was joyful, the workshops inspiring, and the organizers put so much love into every detail.

For me, these events are not just about yarn shopping (though I did bring home some gorgeous skeins!) —they’re about connection. Meeting fellow makers, listening to their stories, and feeling the energy of a community that keeps growing and evolving is what makes festivals so special.

💬 Real talk: I answerer some of your questions about knitting, crochet and entrepreneurship

Question 1: “I’ve never joined a Mystery CAL. How do I know if this one is for me? What should I have ready to enjoy it from day one?”

This is such a common and valid question —especially if you’ve never taken part in a Mystery CAL before or you’re unsure if it’s your kind of thing.

First of all, what is a Mystery CAL? It’s a collective crochet experience where we all work on the same design, but the pattern is revealed little by little. Each week, you receive a new “clue,” and you don’t know what the final piece will look like until the very end.

So… who is this experience for?

If you love crafting in community, enjoy a bit of surprise, want to experiment with color, or simply reconnect with your creativity… this Mystery CAL is definitely for you.

And the best part? You don’t need to be an expert. The instructions are clear, there are charts, supporting videos, and —most importantly— a whole group of amazing women sharing their progress, asking questions, and cheering each other on.

What should you have ready?

Your materials list, which I’ll send via email if you’re subscribed to my newsletter.
A good project bag, because you’ll be carrying this around for a few weeks.
An open, flexible attitude: this is not about perfection —it’s about enjoying the process.
And if you feel inspired, choose colors that make you feel good. In the free class I gave about “High-Frequency Colors for Corazón Delator,” I explain how to choose them more intuitively.

So if you’re looking for an experience that blends fun, connection, and learning… I’d love to have you on this mysterious journey.

Question 2: “What’s the best platform to publish my crochet and knitting patterns if I’m just getting started? Should I use Ravelry, Etsy, or create my own website?”

I love this question because it comes up often for designers who are just beginning to sell their patterns —and each platform has its own strengths and limitations.

▶ Ravelry is still the most popular platform among knitters and crocheters who buy patterns. It’s very powerful in terms of visibility, stats, community, and catalog. If your design is on Ravelry, it’s easier for someone to find it or discover it through other projects.

▶ Etsy is a great choice if you also want to sell kits, yarn, physical goods, or digital PDFs to a broader audience who might not be on Ravelry. However, Etsy takes a commission on every sale, and managing your shop can be more time-consuming.

▶ Your own website gives you total control over pricing, branding, and customer experience —especially once you’ve built a community or an email list. But at the beginning, it requires more time to set up, and you won’t get the organic visibility that Ravelry offers.

So what do I recommend if you’re just starting out?
Start with Ravelry. It gives you structure, trust, and visibility as a designer. And if you want to build a more solid brand, you can eventually add Etsy or your own website.

Tools I recommend: Flodesk

Another question I often receive is how to start building a professional presence online without having to invest in a complex website from day one.

My personal recommendation is Flodesk.

It’s an intuitive and affordable tool for sending newsletters, building your mailing list, and even selling digital downloads like patterns.

I love that it allows me to design beautiful emails quickly and stay connected with my audience in both English and Spanish.

Después de muchísimos mensajes y comentarios de ustedes, la decisión está tomada: ¡el Cholita Sweater se viene con todo! ✨
Estoy trabajando con Merino Baby de Pascuali, haciendo muestras con distintos colores y agujas para encontrar la tensión perfecta. Me entusiasma ver cómo un diseño que nació como un top veraniego ahora se transforma en un jersey cómodo y con mucho movimiento.

Este diseño será uno de los próximos proyectos dentro del Club de Tejido, donde podrás tejerlo conmigo paso a paso en grupo, con kits exclusivos y acompañamiento especial.

Mystery CAL 2025: “Corazón Delator”

El anuncio más grande de este episodio es el lanzamiento del nuevo Mystery CAL 2025: Corazón Delator.

Si nunca participaste en uno, la magia está en el misterio: todas tejemos el mismo diseño, pero las instrucciones se revelan poco a poco, semana tras semana. El resultado final se descubre recién al final.

Este año el proyecto se teje con Cumbria de Pascuali en seis colores vibrantes. Es mucho más que un chal misterioso: es una experiencia colectiva para sorprendernos, aprender y disfrutar en comunidad.

Lanarte Alicante Fest: un festival con alma

También te conté cómo fue mi experiencia en el Lanarte Alicante Fest, un festival más pequeño pero lleno de energía positiva. Viajé acompañada de amigas como Pamela de Lanas Bricall y Jenny de Crafteando que es Gerundio, y disfrutamos de talleres, charlas y un ambiente precioso.

Di dos clases gratuitas: una sobre Granny Squares solidarios para donar a la iaia.org, y otra dirigida a tejedoras emprendedoras, donde compartí recursos y consejos para quienes quieren crecer con sus diseños.

Preguntas y respuestas de este episodio

🧶 Pregunta 1:

“Nunca he participado en un Mystery CAL, ¿cómo sé si este es para mí? ¿Qué necesito tener preparado para disfrutarlo desde el primer día?”

Esta es una pregunta muy común y muy válida, sobre todo si es la primera vez que escuchás hablar de un Mystery CAL o simplemente no estás segura de si este tipo de propuesta es para vos.

Primero: ¿qué es un Mystery CAL? Es un proyecto colectivo donde tejemos todas el mismo diseño de forma misteriosa. Cada semana se revela una parte del patrón (lo que llamamos una “pista”), y no sabés exactamente cómo va a quedar el diseño final hasta el último día.

Entonces, ¿para quién es esta experiencia?

Si te gusta tejer en comunidad, si disfrutás el juego de dejarte sorprender, si querés experimentar con el color o simplemente reconectar con tu creatividad… este Mystery CAL es para vos.

Y además, está diseñado para que no tengas que ser una experta: las instrucciones son claras, hay gráficos, vídeos de apoyo, y sobre todo un grupo de mujeres compartiendo avances, dudas y mucha alegría.

¿Qué necesitás tener preparado?

Tu lista de materiales, que te la voy a enviar por correo si estás apuntada a mi newsletter.
Una buena bolsa de proyecto, porque vas a llevarlo contigo durante varias semanas.
Una actitud abierta y flexible: no se trata de hacerlo perfecto, sino de disfrutar el proceso.
Y, si te apetece, combiná colores que te hagan sentir bien. En la Clase gratuita que di sobre «Colores con alta frecuencia para Corazón Delator», explico cómo elegirlos de forma más intuitiva.

En resumen: si estás buscando una experiencia que combine diversión, conexión y aprendizaje… te espero en este viaje misterioso.

💼 Pregunta 2:

“¿Cuál es la mejor plataforma para publicar mis patrones de Crochet y Punto si recién empiezo? ¿Es mejor Ravelry, Etsy o tener mi propia web?”

Me encanta esta pregunta porque es muy frecuente entre tejedoras que están empezando a vender sus diseños, y cada plataforma tiene sus ventajas —y también sus limitaciones.

▶ Ravelry sigue siendo la plataforma más popular entre tejedoras que compran patrones. Es muy potente en cuanto a visibilidad, estadísticas, comunidad y catálogo de diseños. Si tu diseño está en Ravelry, es más fácil que alguien lo encuentre por búsqueda o lo vea desde otro proyecto.

▶ Etsy es ideal si además querés vender otros productos, como kits, hilados, merchandising o PDFs a gente que no necesariamente esté en Ravelry. Eso sí, Etsy cobra comisiones por cada venta y la gestión puede ser un poco más engorrosa.

▶ Tu propia web es maravillosa cuando ya tenés una comunidad o una lista de correo, porque ahí podés tener control total: de los precios, del diseño, de los emails de quienes compran. Pero claro, al principio puede llevar más tiempo configurarla, y no te encuentra gente nueva como en Ravelry.

Mi consejo si estás empezando: empezá por Ravelry. Te da visibilidad, estructura y confianza como diseñadora. Y paralelamente, si querés construir una marca más sólida, podés ir sumando Etsy o tu propia web.
